Cell-shaded arcade fun? Sign me up! It’s old but it’s aged well in my opinion. Anyone got a copy that they could send me?

This was one of my childhood favorites. The Mitsuoka Orochi is in it.

Can’t mail you the disk, but will a link to a PS2 ISO do?

The site has the Xbox and GameCube versions as well.

Very fun game. It actually works really well through PS2 emulation as well.

I absolutely love this game. It’s an underrated gem that gets a bad rap for reasons I can’t fully understand. Capcom took a chance with the manga art style and it certainly worked in their favor. In a world of racers touting polygon counts, laser-scanning and authenticity, they found an inventive way to inject a little fun and style into the genre. I wish another developer would’ve tried something similar.

The physics are often criticized, but I personally love the slippery steering; it’s not realistic in the slightest, but then why does it have to be? Combined with the visual design and the giant spikes of smoke that trail your tires mid-drift, the fast and loose gameplay just feels on point with the whole ethos of the game. There’s a killer selection of Japanese sports cars (though I could have used some European representation), and the selection of cosmetic upgrades was absolutely perfect and unrivaled in its day.

Really my only complaint was how easy the game was, and also that it could use a few more tracks. And the street circuits that are there aren’t very good. Overall though, I think Capcom had some excellent ideas with AM that, unfortunately, have been long overlooked because the name has become somewhat of a punchline in the last decade and a half since release.
